About the Sector

The Animal Health Sector at Weqaa Center seeks to advance the prevention and control of animal diseases, protecting humans, animals, and their shared environment from associated risks through the “One Health” approach. The Sector adopts the responsible use of veterinary pharmaceuticals for prevention and treatment, expands the use of modern technologies and methods for preparedness, early warning, and response to such diseases, applies best global practices in prevention and control programs to manage epidemic outbreaks, contributes to the growth and sustainability of local animal production, and supports livestock owners across the Kingdom.  

The Sector Aims To
Enhance private sector participation in developing animal health activities for disease prevention and control.  
Protect the health of animals, humans, and the environment.  
Improve spending efficiency and reduce economic losses resulting from animal diseases.  
Control animal diseases based on national priorities.  
Strengthen the contribution of the Animal Wealth Sector to food security and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Increase the Kingdom’s exports of animal production.  
Enhance national self-sufficiency in animal products.
