About the Sector
The Animal Health Sector at Weqaa Center seeks to advance the prevention and control of animal diseases, protecting humans, animals, and their shared environment from associated risks through the “One Health” approach. The Sector adopts the responsible use of veterinary pharmaceuticals for prevention and treatment, expands the use of modern technologies and methods for preparedness, early warning, and response to such diseases, applies best global practices in prevention and control programs to manage epidemic outbreaks, contributes to the growth and sustainability of local animal production, and supports livestock owners across the Kingdom.
Sector Objectives
Protect humans, animals, and their shared environment from the risks of zoonotic diseases in line with the One Health approach.
Develop methods to address animal disease risks that threaten production and activate health measures under the One Health approach.
Improve the efficiency of response and rapid intervention to control animal epidemics and outbreaks.
Contribute to food security by reducing losses in animal production.
Strengthen the sustainability of animal production and reduce losses caused by animal diseases.
Promote best practices in animal disease prevention and control.
Contribute to improving the quality and safety of local animal products.
Safeguard human and animal health.
