Avian Mycoplasmosis

Avian Mycoplasmosis is a contagious respiratory disease that affects poultry. It leads to reduced egg production and hatchability, and it has major economic impacts on poultry projects. The severity of the disease increases when birds are subjected to environmental stresses such as exposure to chemical pollutants or unbalanced nutrition.

Symptoms:

Nasal discharge and conjunctivitis with discharge around the eyes.

Leg inflammation, purulent discharge, and leg deformities in infected chicks.

Swelling in one or both eyes due to discharge accumulation; in severe cases, the eyes may remain closed.

Hoarseness, difficulty breathing, and coughing, with the affected bird stretching its head forward and opening its mouth.

Prevention Measures:

Applying biosecurity and health measures, including cleaning, disinfection, good ventilation, and avoiding overcrowding in poultry houses.

Medicines are not considered an effective method for long-term control, though they may be useful in treating infected flocks

Regular health monitoring of flocks using serological testing to continuously ensure freedom from infection.
