Symptoms of Infestation

Silvery spots appearing on the upper surfaces of infested leaves due to the insect’s feeding by sucking plant sap.

Similar symptoms may appear on young leaves, flowers, and fruits.

Insects cluster on the lower leaf surfaces, appearing as black aggregations.

Infested leaves become yellow, deformed, and wilted.

In later infestations of flowers and fruits, the insect causes significant economic losses.

Prevention and Control Mechanism
Maintaining proper planting distances and good pruning to improve ventilation and reduce pest densities.
Removing weeds and keeping the field floor clean to lower thrips populations.
Applying balanced irrigation and fertilization to strengthen plant resistance and reduce pest spread.
Using biological control, where possible, in fields at the early stages of infestation.
Using repellents alone or in combination with pesticides for light to moderate infestations.
Applying biopesticides such as Spinosad or Azadirachtin in a targeted manner before flowering.
In cases of severe infestations, or when there is a risk of transmitting insect-vectored viruses, applying recommended chemical pesticides against thrips.
Using blue sticky traps.
Planting healthy, pest-free seedlings.
