Bluetongue is a viral disease that affects ruminant animals. Biting midges are considered the primary vector responsible for transmitting the virus between animals
The mortality rate among sheep and goats can reach up to 30% due to Bluetongue disease
Currently, there is no approved vaccine against Bluetongue disease in the Kingdom. The following preventive measures should be followed:
Regular cleaning of livestock pens
Controlling insect vectors by spraying approved insecticides.
Proper disposal of manure where biting midges breed.
Isolating suspected cases and restricting the movement of animals that have been in contact.
Preventing animal movement during peak insect activity, such as at sunrise and sunset.
