Brucellosis

Brucellosis is a contagious bacterial disease that affects (sheep, goats, camels, and cattle). It causes abortion during the second half of pregnancy and is considered one of the most significant zoonotic diseases.

Human infection can occur through:

Direct contact with aborted animals and their secretions.

Drinking raw, unpasteurized milk contaminated with the bacteria.

To prevent infection, the following measures should be followed:

Vaccinate female livestock: (sheep and goats) between 3–6 months of age, cattle between 4–8 months, and camels between 4–12 months.

Dispose of aborted fetuses and placental membranes safely and disinfect contaminated areas.

Practice personal protection by wearing gloves and masks when handling infected animals, and maintain personal hygiene by washing hands after contact with aborted animals.
