Today 9 Aug 2025, in Al Qassim Province, Buraydah, Weqaa Center has organized the Plant Health Knowledge Forum under the slogan of " Palm Trees are Wealth & Development- Sustainable Management of Palm Trees & Dates", in presence of Weqaa Center President & CEO Eng. Aymen Saad Al Ghamdi, and panel of experts, researchers and investors from both inside and outside the Kingdom. The purpose of this forum is to enhance a sustainable future of the palm trees sector. As it is a main base for the food security and national economy in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030. The participants have discussed several key domains, including: • Integrated palm pest management. • Operations post-harvest and storage pest. • Challenges and opportunities for controlling red palm weevil. • Latest technologies related to diagnosis, prevention and control. Weqaa Center President & CEO has emphasized that the forum is considered as a national platform to strengthen the sustainable management of the palm trees wealth through: • The integration between the scientific research and field application. • The benefit of recent technologies. • Enhancing partnership with private sector which is an essential element for the development of agriculture sector. Al Ghamdi has illustrated that the forum is one of the Strategic Center plans that contribute to establishing the knowledge and awareness, raising the level of agricultural practices and integrated palm trees management applications, and addressing challenges that face this crucial sector. He has also indicated that the Center is very keen to develop the national capacities to ensure the sustainability of plant resources in the Kingdom. From his side, Chief Plant Health Sector Officer Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Qreji, at Weqaa Center, has added that the forum is a significant milestone to support the agricultural sustainability. He has indicated that the Center has achieved a great success for several different aspects: • Covering 80% of the agricultural areas. • Identifying 20 types of the propriety plant pests to be scientifically controlled. • Developing the monitoring tools and recent techniques to promote the crop quality and protect natural resources. The forum has witnessed signing several agreements and memorandums of understanding to promote the laboratory diagnosis and cooperation with private sector. Besides, the announce of scientific researches competition scores for ten researchers. Actually, three researches have scored the first place. The forum has also held a scientific exhibition including scientific posters and technological innovations related to the plant health field. Certainly, this forum is one of Weqaa Center's efforts that is aiming to protect the national agricultural wealth. strengthen the palm trees sector sustainability and support the prominent Kingdom position regionally and internationally in the field of plant health. ​
