Weqaa Center, in cooperation with National Center for Vegetation Cover Development & Combating Desertification, has implemented a wide field inspection campaign targeting more than 130 storages and points of sale of exported firwoods in all over the regions of the Kingdom. This campaign has been prepared within an integrative plan between both Centers aiming to: • Ensure the facilities compliance with approved technical and environmental rules and requirements. • Validate the safety of exported firwood to ensure it is free from any plant pests that threaten the plant cover. This campaign seeks to: • Control spread of the plant pests suspended in the exported firwood. • Enhance the plant health and protect the plant cover. • Ensure the facilities compliance with the environmental legislations and approved standards for firwood trading. • Raise the exporters and traders' awareness of the importance of using the regulated exported firwood; in order to protect the natural resources. Both Sides of the two Centers have emphasized that the campaign comes within effective partnership between Sides of the environment water agriculture system. This campaign is supporting the institutional integration to address the environmental challenges and enhance the plant biosecurity in the Kingdom. The Centers have called on all the relevant facilities to realize the importance of perfect compliance with the regulated requirements and to cooperate with the monitoring teams. They have emphasized that the campaign is continuing to achieve high level of compliance in order to control the potential environmental risks.
