In Jeddah, On Monday and Tuesday 28-29 October 2024, Weqaa Center has held the Final Meeting of Regional Program of Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) on " Red Palm Weevil Control" in the Region of Near East and North African; in presence of Weqaa Center President & CEO Eng. Aymen S. Al Ghamdi, and the representatives of relevant countries and Organizations.
During discussing the main topics and exchanging of consultations, the participants have emphasized the importance of governance, which support the policies and regulation of sustainable control for the Red Palm Weevil;
including the tasks related to Plant Health and Plant Quarantine Management to control this pest through a measured usage of pesticide. The program has highlighted several main outcomes, as follows:
• Early detection and surveillance system and risk assessment. • Scientific innovation researches support for finding a long-term solution.
• Skills and abilities development for technicians and farmers to enhance the control tasks. • Importance of response for controlling the Red Palm Weevil; through exchanging of studies, researches, technological knowledge.
