In Al Ahsa Province, Weqaa Center has organized a qualitative 'Field Program' to identify the technology of "BugVape" depending on dogs that can inspect the red palm weevil. This technology is within the Center's plans aiming to use the recent technologies for an early inspection of pests. It is to raise the efficiency of control in cooperation with the National Company for Agricultural Services (AgriServ) and K2 Europe Company in order for providing biosecurity solutions through incorporating technology with trained dogs. During the program session, several main axes have been presented showing the crucial role undertook by Weqaa Center in developing applications that support the integrated red palm weevil management at the level of the Kingdom; emphasizing the importance of adopting the innovative scientific solutions to control the negative impact of this pest on the economic and to ensure ultimate protection for the farmlands. BugVape has been identified to show its significant role of early inspection of infestation, and its technical advantages for operations of inspection, accurate monitoring, and its effectiveness in expediting treatment of infestations. The program has witnessed a direct field experience on the mechanism of using this technology in the infested sites; to measure the speed of BugVap's response and show its ability to early inspect the infestation. The program also, at the end of session, has provided the opportunity to discuss the methods that can overcome difficulties and challenges faced in the work fields, and how to invest the technical suggestions into tangible developmental opportunities to enhance the quality of services provided for farmers; ensuring the sustainability of palm trees sector as a pillar of food security. Through organizing the scientific educational programs, Weqaa Center seeks to enhance the field readiness to use recent technologies, transmit technical knowledge for the national cadres, raise the level of coordination with the relevant entities to achieve an integrated preventative system able to protect the plant wealth in all over the regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
